Giving Thanks Through Prayer

1Thessalonians 5:16-18
Rejoice always,
pray continually,
give thanks in all circumstances;
for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.

Being thankful for all that we have is good. Not everyone feels that they should thank someone for what they do or have. Especially if it is the person’s job. Why should you thank the Bell Man for carrying your bags to your room? Why should you thank the waitress for keeping your soda, coffee or water filled to the brim? Why should you thank your wife for cooking dinner; your husband for taking out the trash?

All of these things are activities that each of these people do as part of their job or position in life.   I used to feel that way many years ago until one day at my job as I was walking down the isle, my manager came up to me and told me thank you for doing a good job with a client. “I was just doing my job,” I said. He in turn told me that he wanted to thank me for doing a good job.   That one act of kindness and thoughtfulness began a change in me.   I realized how good I felt from the words he shared with me.   I can still feel it today.   It didn’t cost him anything to share those thoughts.  The first time my daughter told me thank you for cooking, I was shocked but it made me feel really good.  I began to thank them for the things they did around the house, in school and I told them how proud I was of them each chance I got.

I thank people for the smallest of things. Opening a door for me; bringing extra items to the table, a complement or even washing the dishes. Take the opportunity today to thank people for the littlest thing they do and do it from now on. You will notice a difference in the way they treat you and how they may have a smile on their face or a spring in their step. Just one thank you will make someone’s day.

Granted thanking God for our daily blessings does not have the same effect on Him. Knowing that you are thankful for what He does is more important to you.   Knowing that you feel gratitude helps you to feel good. Feeling gratitude helps you realize that you have vs have not. Feeling gratitude brightens the inside of your soul. Being grateful is humbling.

Asking for what you want, believing that you have received and are grateful is extremely important when acknowledging the Law of Attraction in your life. As a child if you continually asked for things and your parents gave them to you and you did not say thank you, what happened? Did your parents stop giving or were you chastised or spanked for being ungrateful?

Being conscious that Your Father in Heaven is capable of even greater gifts but you must know how to ask for it, believe it has arrived and be grateful for what you currently have in your life.

Ralph Waldo Emerson told us via poetry that we do not have to be on bended knee to let our petitions be known. As we speak each day about our wants and needs we are praying to the Creator of All That Is. As we speak about how our blessings came to us we are in prayer and in thanksgiving.

When doing the 6-step process of The One Command we are thankful for all the information that we receive. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. It is done. It is so.

In Gratitude,
Beverly
